Christmas Eve Show
12-24-42
Command Performance hit the Air waves in 1941 and was produced by the Armed Forces Radio Service. This Radio program was primarily devoted to the American fighting men across the world. Many Servicemen looked forward to this program which offered them a break from the rigors of wartime and brought them back home in there minds for a brief period of time..
These Service men could request, (Command) the performance of there favorite performers. These performers who provided there services free of charge in order to help boost morale of the Servicemen, Would then reply to these requests by acting in sketches, singing and sending personal greetings to certain individual solders from there families at home. These half hour shows would then be transcribed onto plastic records and shipped over seas to be played over the Armed Forces Radio Service. Over the seven years Command Performance was on the air, The show featured famous guests such as Bob Hope, Bette Davis, Betty Grable, Andrew Sisters, Bing Crosby, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Lana Turner, Ginny Simms, Ethel Merman, Carmen Miranda, Johnny Miranda And many more.
